AI Citation
Tracking

Monthly measurement of how often AI engines mention, cite and recommend your brand — against your competitors, across the prompts that lead to sales.

Monthly
prompt-level reporting on mentions, citations and share of voice

✓ Share of voice ✓ Citation sources ✓ Competitor tracking ✓ Accuracy alerts

You can't improve what you can't see. AI answers shift with every model update — tracking turns a moving target into a trend you can manage.

AI citation tracking gives you a consistent, repeatable measure of your visibility in generative search, alongside the rankings and traffic you already report on.

What's included

Consistent measurement
for an inconsistent channel.

The same prompts, the same engines, every month — so changes in the numbers reflect real changes in visibility.

Fixed prompt library

A curated set of buyer-intent prompts across your services and locations, kept stable so month-on-month comparisons mean something.

Share of voice

Your share of mentions and recommendations versus named competitors, broken down by engine and by topic.

Citation source mapping

Which of your pages get cited, and which third-party sites engines use when they talk about your category.

Accuracy monitoring

We flag answers that describe your brand incorrectly — wrong services, old locations, outdated claims — so they can be corrected at the source.

Competitor movement

See when a competitor starts appearing in answers you used to own, and the sources that are driving it.

Recommendations each month

Every report ends with the specific actions most likely to lift visibility next month — not just numbers.

How we work

Set up once,
measured every month.

01

Build the prompt library

We agree the prompts, competitors and engines to track, based on your keywords, services and customer questions.

02

Establish a baseline

The first run records where you stand today, so every future report measures change against a clear starting point.

03

Track & report

Prompts are run on a fixed schedule and results compiled into a monthly report covering mentions, citations, sentiment and competitor share.

04

Act on the findings

We turn movements into next steps — content updates, schema fixes or source outreach — and review the prompt library each quarter.

01

Mentions, citations and recommendations

Not all visibility is equal, so we track three levels separately:

  • Mentions — your brand is named anywhere in the response.
  • Citations — one of your pages is linked or referenced as a source.
  • Recommendations — you're presented as a suggested option, not just listed in passing.

A brand can be mentioned often but rarely recommended, or cited for informational queries but missing from commercial ones. Splitting the measures shows where to focus.

02

Dealing with volatile answers

AI engines are non-deterministic: the same question can produce different answers on different days. We manage this by running each prompt more than once per cycle where it matters, keeping the prompt library stable, and reporting trends over single snapshots. When a model update shifts results across the board, we call that out rather than presenting it as a win or a loss you caused.

04

What a monthly report includes

Each report is short enough to read in ten minutes and specific enough to act on. It covers your overall share of voice and how it moved, results by engine and by topic, the pages of yours that were cited, new competitors and sources appearing in your answers, any inaccurate descriptions of your brand, and a handful of recommended actions for the month ahead. Where tracking turns up structured data gaps, our schema markup work is often the quickest fix.

Questions

AI citation tracking, answered.

How is this different from the AI visibility audit?+
The audit is a one-off deep dive that diagnoses problems and produces a roadmap. Citation tracking is ongoing measurement — the same prompts every month — so you can see whether the fixes are working and how competitors are moving.
Which engines do you track?+
ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews as standard, with Copilot, Claude or Google AI Mode added where your audience uses them.
Can I choose the competitors you track?+
Yes. We agree a competitor set at the start, and we'll also flag any new brands that start appearing regularly in your answers.
Can tracking be added to an existing SEO retainer?+
Yes. Many clients add it to their SEO work so AI visibility is reported in the same monthly cycle as rankings, traffic and conversions.
What if an AI engine says something wrong about us?+
We flag it in the report, trace the likely source — often an outdated directory listing, review site or old page — and recommend the correction. Fixing the source is the most reliable way to change the answer over time.
