Category-page link building for Samsung Australia.

One of the world’s biggest brands, competing with retailers for every “fridge”, “washing machine” and “vacuum cleaner” search. We built editorial links straight to the appliance category pages that needed them most.

The challenge

A DR 92 domain with thinly linked category pages.

Samsung.com has about as much domain authority as a website can have. But authority at the domain level doesn’t automatically flow to every category page — and in Australian appliance search, Samsung competes head-to-head with the big retailers for generic, high-intent searches like “fridges”, “washing machines” and “vacuum cleaners”.

A pre-campaign Ahrefs review of the target pages showed the gap. The main refrigerators and laundry pages had a few dozen referring domains each, but sub-categories such as top-mount, bottom-mount and single-door fridges, side-by-side fridges and washer-dryer combos had just three or four followed referring domains apiece.

The approach

Brief every link to a page and a search.

A page-by-page brief. Each of the 12 category pages — six refrigerator types, three laundry pages and three vacuum pages — was given three or four links, each with its own anchor matched to the searches that page should win: “french door fridge”, “side by side fridge freezer”, “washer and dryer”, “robot vacuum cleaner”, “cordless vacuum cleaner” and more.

Relevant, editorial placements. Every link sat inside a genuinely useful article on a home, lifestyle, renovation or cleaning site — kitchen design, laundry organisation, post-renovation cleaning, choosing a fridge — rather than a thin “sponsored” post. Seventeen of the 39 links were on Australian .com.au publishers.

Quality over quantity. The 39 links came from 37 different sites, with a median Domain Rating of 42 and 12 from DR 50+ publishers. Every link was reported back with its live URL, anchor and target page, and anything that dropped was replaced.

The results

Authority where the pages needed it.

Across October and November 2022, Four Dots delivered all 39 links to 12 category pages — 22 in the first month and 17 in the second. Together they added 37 referring domains to pages that had 127 followed referring domains between them before the campaign, an increase of almost 30%.

The biggest lift went to the thinnest pages. Single-door, bottom-mount and side-by-side fridges and washer-dryer combos each went from four followed referring domains to seven; dryers went from six to nine and robot vacuums from five to eight.
